Given the time it takes to develop a video game, the final product may be completely different from what was originally revealed. Normally players don’t argue with this because they understand what’s going on behind the scenes. However, there are cases where the lies of the developers are blatant enough to be considered false advertising.

For one reason or another, the developers and executives of some games make overstated claims about what their games offer. Rarely is this done for legitimate creative reasons. Usually these lies are used to promote a deceptive game or to help the studio save face. Players always see through the lies and eventually the truth surfaces.

Hello Games then released free patches and updates that delivered on some broken promises, but that didn’t do much to salvage its ruined reputation.

4/10 Warcraft III: Reforged was a terrible replacement for a classic game

Activision-Blizzard announced Reforged with a trailer featuring revised graphics, improved UI, changed writing, and more. Reforged reneged on almost all of its promises, and it barely worked. Reforged also automatically replaced all installed versions of the original The reign of chaos. Worst of all, Reforged demanded that all fan-made automatically belong to Activision-Blizzard. Reforged was just the latest blow to Activision-Blizzard’s crumbling reputation.

3/10 Fallout 76 was an advertising and PR nightmare
