2 more free Xbox games with Gold Games for September 2022 are now available, including the latest 360 title

Microsoft has updated its selection of Xbox Live Gold Free Games with Gold Games, adding two more titles for fans to claim, including Portal 2. Xbox Free Games with Gold games are staggered throughout the month, so subscribers were able to grab two in early September, and now they can claim two more games for their digital libraries.

Currently, Xbox Live Gold subscribers can grab The gods will fall, Double Kick Heroand Portal 2. The gods will fall and Portal 2 are available to Xbox Live Gold subscribers through September 30, while Double Kick Hero will remain one of the free Games with Gold games until October 15. October will likely bring new free Xbox games along with Gold games, but fans should only expect two titles next month instead of the usual four.

Indeed, September 2022 Xbox Free Games with Gold marks the last time the lineup will include Xbox 360 games. Portal 2 is the last Xbox 360 game to be offered to Xbox Live Gold subscribers. The coming months should only consist of two free Xbox One games, though fans will have to wait until next month’s lineup announcement for more details on that.

List of free Xbox games with Gold Games for September 2022

  • The Gods Will Fall (September 1 to September 30)
  • Double Kick Heroes (September 16 – October 15)
  • Thrillville (September 1 to September 15)
  • Portal 2 (September 16 – September 30)

Generally speaking, the Xbox Free Games with Gold program has been unpopular in recent years. That’s mostly thanks to Microsoft shifting its focus from promoting the promotion to promoting its Xbox Game Pass subscription service instead. However, it seems Xbox Live Gold subscribers are mostly happy with the September lineup, with Portal 2 seen as a worthy way to say goodbye to the Xbox 360 side of the program.

Portal 2 was one of the highest rated Xbox 360 games ever released for the console, critically acclaimed for its clever puzzles, the way it evolved the Gate formula, and its captivating and humorous story. It’s certainly one of the most high-profile games to be offered through the Games with Gold program in recent years, and its inclusion in the September 2022 lineup has therefore been appreciated by many subscribers.

There have long been rumors that Microsoft was going to discontinue Xbox Live Gold, replacing it entirely with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, but that has yet to materialize. However, reducing the number of free games offered under the Games with Gold program seems like a step in that direction.
