Origins of Assassin’s Creed is quite the giveaway, indeed. Origins was the first game in the long-running franchise to shift from action-adventure to action-RPG. Set in ancient Egypt during the Ptolemaic period, Origins features a massive open world, character and stat leveling, and a bunch of different types of melee and ranged weapons that dynamically change how you approach the more intense and methodical combat scenarios. Although the switch to an RPG structure hampered the stealth sections a bit, the change was ultimately for the better. The main campaign takes dozens of hours to complete, and you can spend a lot more time exploring and doing everything Origins has to offer. Origins also has a really cool non-combat Discovery Tour mode that serves as an interactive and educational tour of ancient Egypt.
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is another action-RPG worth checking out. Set in the world created by JRR Tolkien, Shadow of Mordor stars Talion, a man who seeks revenge for his wife and son, who were killed by Sauron’s minions. It takes place between The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, but it’s not canonical. The combat is excellent, but the real star here is the innovative Nemesis system, which tracks particularly powerful enemies named Uruks who offer unique combat bonuses for defeating them but grow stronger if you fail. Nemeses remembers Talion, which can lead to some interesting scenarios. You can eventually take control of the Uruks and force them to fight against their own kind.
Football fans will also want to check out Soccer Coach 2022last year’s entry into the management sim where you take control of a club and guide it to championships (hopefully).
Prime Gaming has offered plenty of point-and-click adventures over the years, and September will bring another one from LucasArts: Excavation. This adventure revolves around uncovering the mysteries of an asteroid that was heading towards earth. It was well-received at launch and definitely worth playing if you’re nostalgic for the glory days of point-and-click gaming.
defend the tower is a roguelike tactics game on a chessboard. It is also inspired by tower defense games. We. The revolution is a strategy game set during the Revolutionary War that features an eye-catching art style. Castle on the coast is a throwback to the first 3D collectathon platforms released last year. To finish, Law word: death mask is an adventure game with puzzle mechanics revolving around a series of murders.
As always, the free games will be joined by in-game content for some of the most popular multiplayer games. Here is a list of some of the games that will be receiving new loot at Prime Gaming throughout September:
- Apex Legends
- Battlefield 2042
- Call of Duty: Vanguard and Warzone
- Destiny 2
- fall guys
- FIFA 22
- Surveillance
- Valorant
Prime Gaming also teased upcoming content drops in the coming months for several Ubisoft games, including Skull and Bones, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and Rainbow Six Siege.
