Essential PlayStation Plus free games for October 2022 are already available, and now Sony has announced which games Extra and Premium subscribers will be able to access later this month, on October 18.
The intermediate level, PS Plus Extra, is one that gives gamers access to a large library of PS4 and PS5 games to download to their consoles. As with Xbox Game Pass, these games come and go, so it’s worth keeping an eye out for your favorites.
Leading the pack this month is Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Definitive Edition. The Remastered Trilogy was heavily criticized for being a buggy mess with poor AI upscaling, but it’s had several fixes and won’t cost you anything if you subscribe.

The upper level, PS Plus Premiumadds hundreds of additional games to subscribers’ libraries, through remasters, remakes, ports, streaming versions of PS3 versions and emulated versions of PS1, PSP and PS2 games, with PS1 and PSP emulations making their “debut” on service.
Console and PC streaming options are also unlocked for much of the overall Plus library.
The level was criticized for its pale monthly updates compared to Extra, and this month again adds no “new” emulated games. What Premium is adding this month are previously announced remasters of Yakuza 3, 4 and 5, Ultra Street Fighter IV and Limbo.
Meanwhile, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and everyday shooter have been (re)added to the PS3 streaming library.

A total of 23 games are coming to PS Plus next week, although the caveats of the Assassin’s Creed issues, the lack of previously leaked PS1/PSP games, and the fact that Naruto to Boruto was a PS Plus Essential freebie four months ago may not silence fans’ sentiment that the service still needs improvement.
