As August 2022 draws to a close, many PSMore fans can’t wait to see what’s next. Sony is expected to unveil the free PS Plus games for September 2022 on August 31, release them on September 6, and follow the Extra and Premium games in the following weeks.
However, based on other rumours, it’s possible that the upcoming PS Plus announcement isn’t just a simple reveal of new games. September is usually a big month for PlayStation, and it would be wise to capitalize on the hype surrounding PS Plus with the hype of another reveal.
PS Plus announcement, PlayStation showcase rumors
Sony has held a PlayStation Showcase every September for the past few years, with recent rumors suggesting the next PS Showcase will take place on September 8th. Sony’s announcements are hard to follow, but there’s little reason why this showcase couldn’t be announced on August 31st. The status of games are usually announced at the start of the week they take place, this also happens once with a PS showcase. At the same time, some State of Plays and at least one PS Showcase were announced a full week in advance. With this rumored PS Showcase probably showing God of War Ragnaroka week of hype would be good for the reveal.
In the past, Sony has withheld, delayed, or otherwise altered its typical PS Plus reveal pattern to coincide with something else. PS Plus announcements were delayed to appear during a bigger event before, for example. This is unlikely to happen here since the September 2022 PS Plus release date is 2 days before the supposed event, but posting a PS blog with a focus on September 2022 free games potentially a another announcement or two (as was the case with the Yakuza games for PS Plus), and a final line saying, “oh hey, join us September 8th for our PS showcase” would be incredibly hype-inducing.
This would keep a lot of attention on Sony for the next week before the event, and it’s also worth noting that Sony likes to stand out. This is one of the reasons he pulled out of E3 before the pandemic even started. There are plenty of events planned for September, including the Disney and Marvel games showcase on September 9 and Ubisoft Forward on September 10, and if the PlayStation showcase takes place on September 8, that would be a good way to keep fans excited and focused on the event. It would stand out and eclipse the rest if it revealed all of its major announcements for September in one package, so while that remains to be seen, it stands to reason that August 31 will be a big day for PS Plus subscribers.
PSMore subscribers receive a handful of games each month.
