This week’s new video games (September 19-23, 2022) – Thumbsticks

Return to Monkey Island and The Diofield Chronicle headline this week’s lineup of new video games.

A busy week of new video game releases begins with the latest entry in Ron Gibert’s beloved point-and-click adventure series. Back to Monkey Island sees Guybrush Threepwood – once again voiced by Dominic Armato – revisit iconic locations and mysterious new locations, including Brr Muda and Terror Island.

This year, Square Enix’s onslaught of mid-range RPGs also continues with The DioField Chronicle. The game’s visual treatment isn’t as appealing as the 2D-HD attributes of octopath traveler Where Triangle Strategy, but the XCOM-style tactical combat system looks like a winner. A free demo is available on all platforms.

Meanwhile, Xbox Series X|S players can finally get their hands on Arkane Lyon’s incredible Death Loop. In our review, Aaron Bayne called it “the absolute pinnacle of game design.” Recommendations don’t come much higher than that.

Other new video games include SpiderHeck, DreamWorks Dragons: Legends of the Nine Realmsand Moving Jack.
