This week’s new video games (September 26-30, 2022) – Thumbsticks

EA Sports FIFA 23 headlines this week’s lineup of new video games for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. Kind of.

Electronic Arts says that FIFA 23 will see the series bow out with a slew of new features and modes. This year’s buzzword is Hypermotion2, which adds over 6,000 new animations. The result hopefully is improved shooting, passing, sprinting and dribbling.

Elsewhere, the addition of women’s club football with Barclays FA Women’s Super League and Arkema Division 1 is welcome. But we’re not so thrilled with the inclusion of Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond.

As always, Nintendo Switch owners will have to settle for a Legacy Edition update that refreshes rosters, kits, and very little else. Perhaps that will change next year when the franchise breaks free from its FIFA brand to become EA Football Club.

Other new releases this week include The Legend of Heroes: The Trails of Zero, Hokko’s lifeand Blade Assault. Andrew Shouldice’s masterful action-adventure game Tunic Also coming to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch after a period of Xbox console exclusivity.
